The facts, sourced
What the law says, without the fear marketing
- The obligation is real The directive (EU) 2019/882 has applied to B2C e-commerce services since June 28, 2025. The exemption is limited to microenterprises: fewer than 10 employees AND less than €2 million in revenue, both conditions at once. The technical reference: WCAG 2.2 level AA, through the EN 301 549 standard.
- No EAA fine to date No fine has been confirmed under any transposition law as of mid-2026, and the first DGCCRF checks have been educational. We will never tell you otherwise: that is exactly what sets us apart from the panic sellers.
- Case law moves, and it moves both ways The Caen court (June 2026) set an obligation of result: 71% compliance with the French accessibility standard (RGAA) was ruled insufficient, full compliance ordered within 6 months, with a penalty of €500 a day. Conversely, an identical claim was dismissed in Lille (May 2026) because the threshold was not met, and is now under appeal. Both rulings rest on the 2005 law, which targets the largest companies: we tell you what applies to YOUR size, not what sells fear.
- The real risk at your scale In France (ordinance 2023-859): a fine of up to €7,500 for a legal entity, and a DGCCRF injunction carrying a penalty of up to €3,000 a day, capped at €300,000. On top of that come the lawsuits brought by nonprofits, filed one after another since late 2025. And every day, the sale lost to a customer who can neither create an account nor open their cart.

Listen to what your buyers hear
Here is the same product page, read out by speech synthesis the way a screen reader would. First as we find it on most stores, then fixed in the code.

The state of the market
Not one of the sites we scanned is compliant
French online stores scanned as they actually render in July 2026, checked line by line: scores from 40 to 72 out of 100. The law requires compliance, not a decent average. What about yours?
| Site | Score out of 100 |
|---|---|
| Baby gear | 40/100 |
| Women’s shoes | 48/100 |
| Luggage | 58/100 |
| Furniture | 58/100 |
| Cosmetics | 64/100 |
| Men’s shoes | 66/100 |
| Bedding | 68/100 |
| Ready-to-wear | 72/100 |
The offer
A free exposure report, then three tiers, zero surprises
- 00 · Exposure report: free Built on your live site: what a screen reader really runs into, with your own lines of code. Nothing installed, no commitment.
- 01 · Quick diagnostic: €1,500 excl. VAT The 25 criteria that actually stop people from buying: keyboard, focus, labels, screen reader on the checkout flow. A short report delivered within a week, fixes ranked by their effect on the sale, the limits of automated testing written in black and white.
- 02 · Full audit: from €4,500 excl. VAT The audit of the paths that bring in your revenue: 6 to 8 representative templates (home, product page, cart, account, checkout), tested with the keyboard, with a screen reader and with automated tools. A detailed report criterion by criterion, a compliance rate, a prioritized fix plan. The exact price is set in the quote, depending on the number of templates and how complex the store is.
- 03 · Ongoing support: by quote Fixes in the code, at the theme level, then compliance over time: a dated human re-audit after every change, an accessibility statement documented and kept up to date, fixes included in the contract. Scoped together, after the audit.

Our guarantee, written into the contract
If a third-party audit fails a criterion we delivered, we redo it at no charge. We never promise “100% compliant” or “zero lawsuits”: nobody can promise that seriously.
The trap
Why not a €50-a-month overlay?
Because an overlay does not change the source code. The widget shows up, and behind it your search field still has no label, your images still have no alternative text: a screen reader runs into them exactly as they are. We see this regularly on sites that already pay for an overlay.
Automated tools, for their part, catch about half the volume of the problems (57% according to the Deque study). The criteria that actually stop people from buying, the keyboard, the focus, the screen reader on the checkout flow, stay manual.
And above all: no tool takes on your accessibility statement. It is issued under your own responsibility. Our job: to make it true.
Direct questions
The answers you are owed
Is my online store covered by the EAA?
The EAA (EU directive 2019/882) covers e-commerce services provided to consumers (B2C), since June 28, 2025. Microenterprises are exempt: fewer than 10 employees AND less than €2 million in revenue, both conditions at once. If you are above either threshold with a B2C store, you are covered.
Nobody has been fined. Why act now?
Correct, and we will never tell you otherwise: no EAA fine confirmed as of mid-2026. What does exist: a court that ordered an online store to reach full compliance within 6 months under a daily penalty (Caen, June 2026), the DGCCRF, which can issue an injunction with a penalty, and nonprofits that have been filing claims since late 2025. The question is not the fine: it is not being the easy case when it happens. And a checkout flow that cannot be used with a screen reader is lost sales every day, before the law even comes up.
Is an accessibility overlay not enough?
No. An overlay does not change the source code: fields with no label and images with no alternative text stay in the page, and a screen reader runs into them exactly as they are. And no tool, free, overlay or automated, takes on your accessibility statement: it is issued under your own responsibility. We regularly audit sites fitted with a paid overlay whose basic defects are still there on the rendered page.
Why audit a sample of paths and not the whole site?
Because that is what actually protects you: automated tests catch about half the volume of the problems (57% according to the Deque study), but the criteria that stop people from buying, the keyboard, the focus, the screen reader on the checkout flow, are tested by hand. So we audit 6 to 8 representative templates in depth: the ones your buyers go through to pay you.
What does the guarantee cover?
It is simple and scoped: if a third-party audit fails a criterion we delivered, we redo it at no charge. We never promise “100% compliant” or “zero lawsuits”: nobody can promise that seriously, and the statement is still issued under your own responsibility, documented by our reports.
What about the Shopify checkout and third-party apps?
The Shopify checkout cannot be modified outside the Plus plan: it is maintained by Shopify, which publishes its own accessibility documentation. Interfaces injected by third-party apps are handled separately (monitoring or explicit exclusion in the contract). Those limits are written in black and white in the contract, not discovered along the way.
A free accessibility test, or a compliance certificate: what is each worth?
A free, automated website accessibility test picks up the share of defects a program can see: contrast, images with no alternative text, fields with no label. It tests neither the keyboard nor the screen reader on your checkout flow. And there is no official accessibility compliance certificate for a website: the document expected of you is the accessibility statement, issued under your own responsibility. That is what we document, with the audit and the fixes behind it.
